In both Art and Photography students follow a teacher led introduction to the courses, supported by a student handbook, which helps them understand and fulfil different aspects of the AQA course they have chosen to study.

The introduction period revisits relevant media and materials, taught at KS3, looks in depth at analysis and taking inspiration from sources but also introduces them to new processes and technical guidance. Ensuring they are confident at understanding and meeting the key areas and assessment objectives set out by the exam board.

Following the introduction period the students will begin coursework briefs. The topics are determined and designed with the cohort in mind to ensure that they all reach their potential.

Year 11 in Art and Photography is a short, fast paced and exciting year. In the Autumn term students embark on their major piece of independent coursework, delivered as an exam practice. In the Spring term the GCSE exam paper is released in January and students will then sit their practical exam in March.

In this year, supported by staff, students/artists/photographers develop in an ‘A’ level fashion, they have ownership of their idea development, creative processes and experimentation. They have access to staff and the department at all times and we aim to set no limits to their creative output.

Following GCSE, there are a variety of course options available. Farnborough 6th Form College has an excellent Art Centre where students can specialise in Fine Art, Photography, Graphics or Textiles at ‘A’ Level. Farnborough College of Technology, ranked an outstanding college, also offers BTEC courses and Diplomas as well as ‘A’ Level courses. If students would rather remain in a school environment, Yateley School admits students into their 6th Form and has an excellent Art Department. All centres have excellent facilities and support moving forwards. These are just a few of the local options available.

Following further study the opportunities for careers in Art & Design and or Applied Arts are varied and extensive. There is not an industry or company in the world that does not employ creative minds from a variety of disciplines. While I could go to list the opportunities please see this link and explore the possibilities:
