Key Stage 3 |
Learning a language is an amazing opportunity. One which should be open to everyone. It is not just for the brightest or for those who want to use it in their career. It opens up a world of opportunity to the aspiring globetrotter, the casual holidaymaker or the dreamer, wanting to move abroad to live in one of the world’s many exciting destinations.
Year 7 aims to stir every young person’s excitement for language learning. Throughout the year, Year 7 students build a bank of French high frequency structures and key words, which enable them to listen, talk, read and write about a variety of topics including themselves and their family. Students will also learn how to talk about hobbies, where they live and to marvel at the incredible differences between school life in France and in England.

The MFL department has carefully structured a spiral curriculum which enables students to revisit key structures and vocabulary learnt in Year 7 but increases in structure and grammar complexity. In Year 8 students will study the topics of town, food and clothes shopping and health.
The schemes of work also aim to encourage cross curricular links with English, Geography and Maths, to name a few.

The focus of Year 9 is to consolidate all that has been learnt previously in Year 7 and 8, revisiting structures, key language and grammar but again raising the challenge bar and introducing more complex texts as well as extended written and spoken work in order for students to be GCSE ready.
In Year 9 students will be introduced to the topics of media, youth culture and holidays.
